Ghana forex FAQ

Is forex trading legal in Ghana?

Trading forex isn't illegal, but no Ghanaian regulator licenses retail online forex brokers. The Bank of Ghana authorises interbank FX brokers that deal with banks and companies, not retail traders. Your protection depends on the broker's offshore regulator, so favour brokers with strong, well-supervised licences.

What did the SEC Ghana deadline change?

On 23 June 2026 the SEC told online investment and trading platforms offering SEC-regulated activities to register by 31 August 2026 or stop operating. It targets securities platforms and doesn't create a forex broker licence. Check the SEC's warnings on sec.gov.gh before you deposit anywhere.

Can I deposit with MTN MoMo?

Some brokers accept Ghanaian mobile money (MTN, Telecel, AT) through their corporate accounts. Look for MoMo in the 'Local payments' column above. Never send money to a personal MoMo wallet; that's a common scam sign.

Can I open a cedi (GHS) account?

None of the brokers we cover offer GHS trading accounts. You deposit in cedis and trade in US dollars, so expect a conversion cost on deposits and withdrawals.
