Nigeria forex FAQ

Is forex trading legal in Nigeria?

Trading with foreign brokers is widespread and not prohibited for individuals, but no online forex broker is yet licensed by SEC Nigeria. In September 2026 the SEC published draft rules that would require local registration, capital of ₦2bn–₦5bn, retail leverage caps of 1:400 on major pairs and negative-balance protection.

Which brokers accept naira deposits?

Some brokers support local bank transfers in naira or NGN-denominated accounts. Check the 'Local currency' and 'Local payments' columns above.

How do I avoid forex scams in Nigeria?

Never send money to an 'account manager', avoid anyone promising fixed returns, and remember CBEX: it collapsed in 2025 with reported losses above $800m. See our Scam Alerts page for the latest SEC warnings.

What will change when the SEC rules take effect?

Brokers serving Nigerians would need to register locally, keep client money in segregated accounts at CBN-licensed banks, get marketing pre-approved and stop unapproved influencer promotions. Existing operators would get three months to apply.
